I think it's a decent amount of time to finish (I might be a slow reader) and won't fail to please. I'd be lying if I didn't say I wish there was more it was that good and having stats was pretty useful. This'll likely be one of my favorite RPGs from now on and despite all the text I'd highly recommend it's worth giving this game a shot! However there seemed to be something missing from the characters to me, can't pinpoint what exactly but it was something.In short, I'd recommend this game to those who enjoy RPGs such as I do and I hope you'll equally enjoy this game as much as I did!. Really well-written story! I highly recommend this game if you're into text-based RPGs.. I really liked this one, choice of robots is still my favourite CYOA game but being a pirate is always fun. My only complaint is it seems too short and ends very abruptly. My time played is not accurate as i clicked away with the window open.. I am glad this game is so cheap as I would have been much more salty about how short it was. I'd advise anyone from purchasing unless they were looking for something different to play. Choice of the Pirate is a game centered around your choices you make in the storyline that ultimately effects the plot in the end... I had a lot of fun choosing and reminding myself to be wary of what I choose... but I gotta say that some of the choices I made didn't really seem to bite me in the\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665in the end at all. I never heard that character at all ever again after that choice I had made, and I was really expecting them to come back later on and try to stab me in the back for it. It didn't happen though, which was disappointing. I liked being able to pick out my signature clothing as a pirate, however that "choice" seemed to be purely asthetic... I created my own piece of clothing and I expected the game to sorta "substitute" my choice within the conversation when it came to that point but it never happened. A lot of the characters in the game are meaningless and you won't really need to remember their names since you'll only interact with them two different times out of the whole playthrough. The "love interest" really isn't interesting. After hooking up the relationship really isn't brought back up in the story at all until the epilogue in the ending. Another thing, the whole "pirate king" title barer is a mystery.... but.... it's not... the story makes it painfully obvious from the very beginning who the pirate king really is... Your character starts at the very bottom, but can grow into a badass pirate legend. You'll soon captain you own ship and be given missions from several factions. You can help, hurt, or lie to mutliple factions. It's also possible to be neutral. Pros:-The story pulls you in right away and finds reasons for you to be invested in your character. -Action and intrigue throughout, no slow points or endless text. -Skills go up over time, based on what you choose. -Buy, capture, or recruit additional pirate ships. Each ship has it's own backstory.-Good replay options. Mainly through aiding different factions. -Plenty of choices and characters you can interact with.-Hunting down, out manuvering, fighting and boarding other ships is fun. -Curses, ghosts, mermaids, sea monsters, tyrants, and treasure. Cons:-The story is too short. It's a big problem and the only reason there are cons on this list.-Characters are pretty static. -The author tries to make it a mystery of who the pirate king is. But it's pretty clear there's only one candidate. Would have been so much better to have a big reveal in the final chapter. -The ending was wrapped up very quicly, with surprisingly no reprocussions. Doesn't really say what happens to you or the main characters.-I had alot of leftover money at the end. I wanted more things to spend it on, or leave a legacy. Overall:-Alana Joli Abbott is such a great writer, and I would definitely play another game by her. BUT the story suffers from being too short. All the elements of an epic tale are there, but never fully realized. I do recommend this, epsecially if you like pirates, but you may be disappointed by the end.
